Washington, D.C., May 30, 2012 – Lawyers from area law firms and other legal organizations will compete in a hotly contested ninth annual battle of the law firm bands to benefit Gifts for the Homeless, Inc. One band will be crowned Banding Together Championfor having raised the most money from the crowd through “Chicago-style” voting (each dollar contributed equals one vote – vote early and often!).  This year, the battle will take place on two stages at the Black Cat, so we expect to rock the whole house!  This year, GFTH is also featuring several guest emcees to help with the evening’s festivities, including Kris Van Cleave from the Capital Weather Gang and Amy Morris from WNEW, among others.  GFTH will use 100% of the money donated to purchase thermal underwear, sweatshirts, sweatpants, hats, gloves, socks, blankets and other essential new clothing items for homeless men, women, and children; the clothing is then distributed to approximately 35 shelters throughout the Washington metropolitan area.  GFTH’s goal for Banding Together 2012 is to exceed last year’s amazing total of over $150,000 raised.

The Black Cat is a live music venue committed to providing the best in local, national, and international independent and alternative music.  The Black Cat is also known for its delicious vegan, vegetarian and non-vegetarian food served from 8:00 pm until 1:00 am on weeknights at the Food for Thought Cafe.  “We are delighted that a great rock venue like the Black Cat has again generously partnered with us to host an event that is as much fun as it is worthwhile,” said GFTH board of directors member Walter Lohmann, the chief organizer of Banding Together 2012.  To date, nearly 60 law firms, associations, companies and individuals have sponsored Banding Together 2012.

All are invited to attend the event; the entire $10 cover charge benefits GFTH’s new clothing purchases.  For more information, please visit the Gifts for the Homeless web site at www.gfth.org.
