  • GFTH is the only coordinated effort by D.C.’s legal community to help the area’s homeless.
  • GFTH is run by volunteers and has no overhead or administrative costs, so 100% of the donations we receive go to the homeless. All out-of-pocket costs are covered by donations from the Board of Directors and in-kind materials are donated by participating law firms and members of the Board.
  • In over 25 years, GFTH has raised over $3.5 million to purchase new clothing.
  • Last year’s effort was a huge success.
    • Last winter, the value of new clothing and blankets delivered area homeless shelters was over $1.5 million!
    • Approximately 70 firms and other organizations participated in the Used Clothing Drive.
    • 300 volunteers sorted over 4,000 bags of used clothing and delivered them to 65 Washington,

The Kelley Drye & Warren law firm has been a strong supporter of Gifts for the Homeless (“GFTH”) for nearly a decade.

The Firm, through the tireless efforts of its GFTH chair, attorney Dan Blynn, collects between 75 and 100 bags of new and gently-used clothing, linens, toiletries, etc. annually; employees also make monetary contributions.  The Firm encourages its employees to donate as much as possible in an effort to spread holiday cheer and, even in these difficult economic times, Kelley Drye employees enthusiastically dig deep to provide for those less fortunate.

Formal internal collection typically begins about a month before the collection deadline, but Blynn coordinates the receipt of items throughout  the year to maximize the amount of clothing and other items donated.

According to Blynn, “charity and community involvement are calling cards for Kelley Drye, and it makes me smile to see the Firm make winter a little warmer for others.  We applaud Gifts for the Homeless and are happy to be involved with such a great organization!”

Tomorrow’s the big day! Our annual clothing drive begins and will last all weekend.

Here are some directions if you’re looking for us:

  • The drive is located at D Street between 12th and 13th, SW
  • The sorting site is the same location as last year: the lower/street level of the building
  • All drop-offs should be on the “D” street side of the building (Maryland Avenue borders the other side)
  • GFTH signs will be posted along the street and on the building
  • We will have a stretch of street meter parking reserved along the building and that area is blocked-off
  • Drivers should just pull-up (without finding a parking spot) and a GFTH volunteer(s) should be outside to help unload the truck

We can’t wait to see you this weekend!
